My Gray Hair Story
Actually, in retrospect it wasn’t really overnight, but a progressive thing, so I’ll start from when I first noticed that something was wrong. That would be almost six years ago when I found my first gray/silver hairs. I was 45, so it was to be expected. My husband and I had a good chuckle. I pulled the hair out. Crisis over. A few months went by and I noticed that short, frizzy gray hairs were sticking straight up all along my part-line. No matter how much gel or other gunk I put on them…SPRONG…back up they went! I didn’t panic until one day I noticed that my hairbrush was full of hair and I knew that I had just cleaned it a week ago. I removed all the hair and horror of horrors, in a few days it was already full of hair again. Panic time. So, I’m probably about 47 or 48 when I discover that I might be losing my hair. GREAT! What do I do now? All the women on my mother’s side of the family started wearing wigs when they were about that age, so it didn’t take Einstein to figure out that maybe the women in our family have a problem with hair loss. I did some research and found out that if you start Rogaine when you first notice hair loss you may be able to avoid it all together. Plus, women actually have a lot better success rate than men. Okay, but do I really want to do this for the rest of my life? Not a choice…Rogaine it is. To be honest, it really doesn’t cost much more than any other good hair product and I consider it kind of an insurance policy against looking like my grandma without her wig. Not a pretty thought! So a year goes by, I’m not sure if it is the Rogaine or just that my first big influx of gray hair has finally slowed down. Yes, I do really think that when the gray hair starts to come in it “pushes out” the normal hair. It’s a theory…remember the disclaimer from the home page; I am not a professional hair stylist or doctor, yada, yada, yada!
